Save your roof check your Antenna boot!!!

**Update: This article has saved countless roofs. I spoke to one person that said he couldn’t find the leak above his bed in his fifth wheel until he read this article. He went on the roof and found the antenna boot was out of place. He put it back into place and no more leaks!!! Im happy this advice that was passed to me has been so helpful!!!

I was recently camping at Ft. Pickens Campground in Pensacola Beach, Florida talking with a site neighbor when he looked up and said you need to fix that or your going to have roof problems. He was pointing at my roof. I said what do you mean? Below is a picture of my roof where he was pointing:

The wire for your antenna, the boot has worked itself up the wire and its letting water pour into your roof. Even after he said it I still didn’t see it. It took looking from multiple angles until it was clear.

The nice gentleman told me he learned the hard way but luckily his manufacturer fixed the issues under warranty, way to go Tiffin. So now he can’t help but notice that little boot when he looks at another persons RV.

At the time we were in Pensacola and it was July 26th approximately so in other words it was really hot. I didn’t check it out that day but I did a week later when I remembered. We had just arrived in Conyers, GA to visit with family. This time I took pictures from below and from the roof.  Below are some of the pictures that show why that little boot is so important.

The last picture shows what the boot looks like once its put back into place. He explained that limbs, wind, etc.. will move that little boot up and that he used lap sealant around the bottom to keep it from working itself back up the wire. I haven’t done that yet but Im very much aware of it now.

Thats how 10 minutes can save you $4,000.00+ dollars because thats about as long as it took me to take the pictures, climb the ladder and put that boot back into place. You could also use a little lap sealant along the bottom to help secure it.

Hope this was able to help you.
